My Opinion on Polish Immigration

Every group of immigrants that came to America has something unique about their culture. Whether its the reasons they came or their cultural background, they each play a significant role in history. However, Polish immigrants really do have an anomalous background.

Being of the Polish descent, I find the whole idea of having Polish immigrants in my family interesting. If they never came to the United States I wouldn’t be where I am today. The same thing applies for other cultures as well. Polish immigrants had one of the largest populations and settled in many different parts of America. The fact that they were uneducated and had some of the lowest paying jobs in the market gave them their reputation of being considered poor and filthy.

They left Poland due to their will of freedom and risked losing everything by leaving. If I was put in this position, I would probably end up leaving also. In Poland they were unemployed and had nothing to look forward to. Poland had no independence and citizens there were subject to partitioning. So when they came to the United States they had more job offerings, the unemployment rate decreased drastically, and they were able to vote.

Poland today is more fair to their people. Wars and uprisings eventually took back their independence. The war in Europe put politicians in a position to choose sides. Partitioning nations ended up in opposite camps, therefore giving a chance for Poland to regain their “freedom”.  World War 1 ended all partitioning power. I think that this was a good thing because if they didn’t get put in opposite camps then they wouldn’t have their freedom.

All together Polish immigrants had many unique things about their culture. They appreciated everything they had even through thick and thin. This means even when they were poor and worked all hours of the day, they made the best of it. Many people in America today have some sort of Polish descent and none of us would be here if they didn’t risk everything to start a new life here in America.
